Making your money work for you, is all about making wise decisions on how you spend your money. You leverage what you make to make more money Click To Tweet
You don’t have to leverage a lot of money to make it work for you. You can leverage $50 or $100 and double it if you tap into what you are good at. What would make you really happy? Are you happy with the job you have now? Do you want more freedom? How would you go about getting that freedom?
When we started budgeting, I thought life would be awful. I was committed to the process of budgeting but I really thought I would have the entire process of living a life of lack. I thought I would never go shopping or buy anything fun ever again. I thought I would be the frumpy housewife with old ratty clothes and bad hair. Ok so maybe I am frumpy, but my hair doesn’t look too bad.
Instead what I found was that by starting a budget, I have simplified my life in so many areas. I have simplified grocery shopping. I have simplified my wardrobe and life just seems a little easier because I know we aren’t living paycheck to paycheck.

Starting a Budget is the First Step To Leveraging Your Money
Starting a budget is the first step to making your money work for you as you have to get control over your money before you can leverage it. Include all the great things that make you who you are in your budget, but make sure you leave some money in your budget to get what you want out of life. This it totally not what Dave Ramsey would do and this is how we stray from his plan. We have built a real estate portfolio just over $500,000 over the last 4 years. We have done that by leveraging our money. Yes, this is larger scale and you don’t have to do it this way, but it is possible to invest in real estate with not much money. (That is an idea for a separate post.) I haven’t written about ways to invest with very little money, but if you are interested, you can check out a book from Brandon Turner called How to Invest in Real Estate with No and Low Money Down.
We have been leveraging our own money with real estate, but plenty of others actually leverage the money of others in order to invest in real estate. It is called private money lending. Basically, you find someone who acts as the bank and they buy the property for you. This is not a bad plan as long as you know what you are doing in real estate.
How to Leverage Money on the Smaller Scale
Let’s talk about this on a smaller scale. You don’t have to invest in real estate to really know about leveraging money. I love that you can do this on any scale. Consider all of the things you can do in order to make money fast. You can sell stuff around the house, become a yard sale flipper (sell stuff online for a larger profit), or provide a service. There is literally so much you can do in order to make a profit fast.
On the smaller scale, you can sell your own stuff around the house in order to make money from those tangible assets to go towards something else. If you are interested in starting your own business but you feel you don’t have the money, look around you and see what is available for you to sell in order to make a small profit to start what you want.
